Stone Village Market

Known by locals as the "Whole Foods of the High Desert," Stone Village Market has made to order sandwiches, soups, and bread, as well as a variety of organic produce and groceries.

Chateau Wright Winery

A beautiful winery in the Fort Davis Mountains. NASA scientists and doctors have had a hand in developing this winery, and the Davis Mountains provide an especially unique growing climate. You can learn more, take a tour of their vineyard, and sample wines by calling ahead for reservations.

Alta Marfa Winery

A Grand Cru vineyard in the beautiful Fort Davis Mountains with grapes grown locally and by other farmers in Texas and New Mexico. They produce some beautiful bottles and we highly recommend making an advance appointment to sample some of their unique wines.

Fort Davis Drugstore

A 1950's soda fountain time capsule that now serves comfort food, drinks, ice cream, and baked goods.

Blue Mountain Bar & Grill

A local favorite that features a classic menu with locally grown, raised, and butchered meats, produce, and wine.

Chihuahuan Desert Research Institute

The CDRI houses the largest collection of indigenous cacti in the entire Big Bend region. The 507 acre site has a botanical garden and walking paths surrounded by semi-desert grasslands and igneous rock outcrops. Exhibits include the geologic history of the Davis Mountains and how anthropology is connected to geology.

Fort Davis National Historic Site

Fort Davis was originally a military frontier town, and this historic site is one of the best surviving examples of what an 1800s outpost was like in the Southwest. There is also an excellext exhibit on the legacy of Buffalo Soldiers in this region and the extreme prejudice that Black men faced while working in and building what we know as the Western frontier of today.

Davis Mountains State Park

Explore all the outdoor adventures that the Davis Mountains have to offer. Hikers, bikers, equestrians, dog owners, bird watchers, and nature enthusiasts can find lots of options to get outside on one of the many Davis Mountains trails.

McDonald Observatory

McDonald Observatory is a research unit of The University of Texas at Austin and one of the world's leading centers for astronomical research. Observatory facilities are located atop Mount Locke and Mount Fowlkes, which offer some of the darkest night skies in the continental United States. Take a look at their website for telescope and observatory visiting hours. We highly recommend attending one of their legendary star parties!

Rattlers & Reptiles

Exactly as the name suggests, here you can view and interact with over 100 different species of rattle snakes, reptiles, local desert mammals, insects, and arachnids.

Keesey Canyon Hoodoos

A cool roadside pull-off spot for those into interesting geological formations. Also a great little spot for a picnic.

Limpia Creek Vista Hike

A moderate, winding hike through the Fort Davis Mountains with incredible views of the surrounding landscape. It's especially beautiful in the late spring, when the hillsides are covered in wildflowers and greenery.
